Temperature Conversion (°C ↔ °F)

Converts body temperature between Celsius and Fahrenheit: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9 and °F = °C × 9/5 + 32. Normal is about 37 °C (98.6 °F); fever is ≥38 °C (100.4 °F).

  • Temperature (°C or °F)

Formula

°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9 · °F = °C × 9/5 + 32

Clinical pearls

  • A number without units between 50 and 122 is treated as °F (it would be implausible in °C).
  • Rectal readings run ~0.5 °C higher than oral; axillary ~0.5 °C lower.
